Gpu Power Compatibility Conundrum

So recently ive been faced with a problem that i have been unable to solve.
Keep in mind that in these past few days ive learned more about desktop pcs than any other time in my life.
Ive wanted to upgrade my gpu for a while now and ive decided on the new 970gtx, the 970 needs a 8p pin pci and a 6 pin pci, that much i understand (now).
However my pc has a modular ocz700mxsp, and the extra cables are gone. Currently my gpu is powered by one of the pci ports 6pin to 6pin, and by a double 4 pin molex to a 6 pin pci, which is in turn in one of the black outputs in the psu. and i dont know the difference, also ive been reading alot about rails as well and i couldnt be more confused at this point.

So my question, one of the solutions ive come across is replacing the double molex to 6pin with a double molex to 8pin. Would that work?
Another is to buy a 8pin to 6+2pin ocz modular cable from a buisness based in hong kong(moddiy, if youve heard of it, let me know) would that be the smarter choice?
Again, not really knowing what is important and what isnt i apologise for the poorly worded post.
I would like to mention that the gpu i have atm requires more watts than the one i am replacing it with, if that is a factor some how.

well, it has 2 red 8pin sockets. One empty and one with the 6pin cable, the 6pin cable is a standard 6pin in one end and the other end is an 8pin but where there are only wires going to 6 of the connectors or whatever

I'd try to get replacement cables if you can. Might be tricky, since OCZ got out of basically everything but the SSD business.

Sounds like you've been faking a 6-pin connection with reasonably good results, but I'd be more hesitant to fake an 8-pin.

Best off to buy replacement cable(s) from the manufacture, and yes, I definitely know that OCZ is no longer with us in the power supply business; however, PC Power and Cooling, who was part of the OCZ power supply business, went through some changes and is now FirePower. They appear to be handling or selling renamed OCZ units (renamed, of course, FirePower) and OCZ units.
Sooo, you might want to give them a call (1 800 4591816 or 1 760 931-5700) or go to their website
http://www.firepower-technology.com/
I have dealt with PC P&C several times over the last 15 years and they have always been friendly and willing to help; give them a try.

UPDATE
They still carry the 700mxsp, so they should have the proper cabling for it. this link should open to the ModXstream
http://www.firepower-technology.com/product-listings/modxtream-product-family/
Looks, IMHO, that they should be able to provide a replacement.

Thank you so much! I have sent them an email and hopefully they will get back to me with good news.

UDPATE: When/if i get the 8pin to 8pin i should just use the empty red 8pin socket? so that the gpu is powered by the two red sockets.

[strike]Update your email, or call them, and ask for a diagram or what is to be plugged into which socket[/strike]
Go to the last link I sent you and open the mechanical drawing link on the left. I don't know what color they are, but I would think that the new cable goes into one of the 8 pin/port receptacles.
