i have been leaning on 7 since its familiar and i will know where to look for things instantly; i like that its the same desktop interface that i've grown up with. I hear tha twin 8 has a "start" screen but is it the same as what we all know or is it different? im not sure but i want to buy an OS asap since most of my parts for my new build have arrived.

also, when looking for win 7 home premium 64 bit online, i see a lot of OEM versions. what is this and how does it differ from retail box?

Solution
It is suggested to reinstall the OS again (for any conflicting drivers, or other askew issues). It is not needed to do a full refromat of the SSD, just insert the live cd and remove the current OS partition and let Windows write a new partition.

ok, i guess that is my only option seeing as how its hard to find the retail, full version (at least the sites i been to are all oem, including best buy). my question then, is, in the future, if i want to upgrade my mobo i will need to buy another os? im planning on installing the os to my ssd, so i would have to reformat the ssd and practically erase everything off it and start anew?
