I recently purchased a plyr 1 headset and it work really well with my ps4 but I looked into getting it working with my PC and after everything I read up on I figured I just need a Dolby digital sound card and it should work with my headset with Dolby surround. I went and purchased a asus xonar DX and hooked it up to the plyr 1 transmitter using optical. After testing it out I was let down that the surround wasn't working. Is there some step that I missed?

Yeah, i bet there are steps you missed.
Did you try searching for how to setup surround sound headphones for your sound card?

Most headphones are stereo, so they default to that, there's like setting or software you need to get installed to make the soundcard send the right signals to your headset to get it to be surround sound.

I figured it eventually. Instead of selecting spdif as default sound device you select the xonar speakers as default and change the spdif out settings with the xonar program to Dolby digital live.
