Both will do fairly the same job , The Xeon is a good option if editing/rendering is one of your planned priorities . Otherwise the i5 is still a very competent processor that will suffice your needs perfectly.
The Xeon might be a good option also for the future , if the price is fairly similar then get the Xeon if not then get the i5 and spend the extra money towards a better GPU or SSD.

Xeon is for productivity purposes mainly, for gaming right now an Intel Haswell quad core is just fine. The specific one you mentioned, the i5-4690K is perfect. Get a decent air cooler with it such as the Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo and you're set.
