Because it is using technology from 27 years ago. There are better options. If you need sound from your monitor, the answer is hdmi, if you dont then the answer is dvi.

Because VGA is analog and this means introducing video signal noise by doing the DAC conversion on the GPU combined with the ADC conversion on the LCD.
By going with any of the digital interfaces, you eliminate both analog conversions and that gives you the best image possible without any possibility of running into one of the many potential analog conversion artifacts.
