Hi everyone, I'm currently suggesting a computer build for my friend. So far, the only issue is keeping the cost under $1800 (AUD) and I've created a current build but he is open to ideas and improvements.

CPU: AMD FX-8350
Mobo: ASUS M5A97 R2
RAM: Kingston Hyper X Fury HX316C10FK2/8
GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 Windforce OC
PSU: Corsair VS650
Storage: WD Green 2TB and Kingston SSD 60GB
Case: Corsair Carbide 330R
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i
Network Adapter: ASUS PCE-N15
CD-Drive: Samsung SH-224DB
Monitor: BenQ RL2240HE
Keyboard: Ducky Shine Zero

Current cost for this build is around $1754 AUD

This is my suggested build for him, should work fine but I'm quite sure there are improvements to be made. The keyboard and monitor are included as they are part of the cost. The current website used is pccasegear for this list of parts but as long as your suggested builds/changes are within the price range, it is fine.

Solution
Sorry for the messy formatting, I gotta go now so can't fix it.

Three quick notes:
1) that's not the best motherboard I've chosen, might be worth stepping up depending on what he wants
2) Storage is a 128GB SSD & 7200RPM HDD instead of the 60GB SSD and WD Green (SLOW!) HDD you had originally
3) I have listed a cheap, large air cooler. Should be fine enough for a decent OC on the i5, but it is definitely a big step down from the liquid cooler you had originally. Still, that intel CPU even at stock will beat the 8350 in almost everything. Whatever OC the Hyper 212 gives you would be a step up again.

First - use this site to put together and link your build. Your life will be easier. Their lives will be easier. Unicorns will fart rainbows.
http://au.pcpartpicker.com/

Second - Is the OS (windows) included in your 1800AUD budget, or excluded?

3rd - I wouldn't recommend an AMD CPU in a build worth (excluding OS) more than $500 USD.

That being said, I use an FX 8320. I bought it for $100 USD. Before this, I used an Athlon II X4 620. I built 2 more AMD PCs (Athlon II X3, FX 8320 as well). I've built 3 Intel builds (Pentium and 2 i5-2500ks). The Intels are better. Considering the AMD announcement, they will continue to be better till at least 2016.

The difficulty is translating this into aussie dollars. That'll take too much time, someone else will post a build quicker than I will.

Try this. Basically the same build with an Intel i5 and a lesser cooler.

Sorry about not having the prices, was a little short on time when I posted it but here are the parts
http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/q6fTjX

I guess we could definitely upgrade the motherboard and storage and the build will not require buying an OS. Sorry for not stating this earlier

@rhysiam Your build looks really good and my friend might consider switching over
