One of my Techs built up a PC with this motherboard using 2 Velociraptors in a RAID 0 on the Intel controller and a 500GB enterprise OS drive. There are 2 6gb SATA ports that should have been used for the RAID. He positioned the drives incorrectly in the TRAY and has an OS on a 6gb port and the RAID split between a 3gb SATA port and a 6gb SATA port. Can the OS drive be physically repositioned (Swapped) to be on the 3gb SATA port and the other RAID drive moved to the 6gb SATA port? Are there consequences? Start over? Any chance the controller will follow the drives?

The Intel SATA controller on your motherboard has 10 ports.
Since you stated that the RAID-0 array was created on the Intel controller then you can connect your drives in any combination to any of the 10 ports and the array should be recognized.

Likewise, the Marvel SATA controller on your motherboard has 4 ports.
If you create a RAID array on that controller then you can reconnect the drives to any of the 4 ports without any issues.

Page 2-34 of your motherboard manual will show you the location of the Intel ports.
Page 2-35 of your motherboard manual will show you the location of the Marvel ports.

Also FYI, since your RAID-0 array is comprised of HDDs, it doesn’t matter if you connect them to the Intel 6Gb/s ports or the Intel...

It really depends on your RAID controller some go off of the drive serial numbers, others are less advanced. It wouldn't surprise me if it gives you a lot of issues if you swap them. Make sure to back up everything first.

Though since your OS isn't running on the RAID, I'd say you should be able to safely reconfigure it after you move it. Just make sure you pay attention to the stripe size, and you've got a 50/50 shot at getting it right the first time. Just don't let if format the array if you get the settings wrong the first time.

No HDD can spin fast enough to saturate a 3Gb/s port. So your RAID-0 array will get the same Read/Write performance if the drives are connected to 6Gb/s ports or 3Gb/s ports.
