AMD Catalyst driver install failure

Hello!
First time poster and I am in dire need of help. Be gentle!

So from out of the blue my Catalyst drivers just died on me. I can't pinpoint when or how because I don't always get the chance to use my computer every day. But I noticed it due to the fact that I could not enter the Catalyst Control Panel (I got an error message that said catalyst control center cannot be started there are currently no settings that can be configured). I also noticed that I could not install the 14.9 update. So I've been on 14.6 and it has worked. Up until now.

So I tried to reinstall the drivers and I did it in what I presume is the right way (Uninstall, reboot, install, reboot). But upon installing the drivers I got an error message that said that the HDMI & Sound and AMD Driver could not be installed. I guessed it gave me the message because I had not yet rebooted, so I did. After logging back in I noticed the issue was still there. Rinse and repeat, fresh driver DL from the site just in case as well and it didn't work. I also tried different versions of the driver. The 14.9, the 14.6 again and the beta drivers - Nothing.

I've googled it and found out that when these sort of things happen you can try to manually install the drivers via the device manager. However when I try to do so, I get a message that says that the installation could not proceed due to the manufacturer could not be identified or something like that. (My system is in Swedish so I'm not sure exactly what the message says in the English version).

... So what do i do now? I've considered unplugging the card, put an old one in and then put the 6870 back in. I've considered getting a new card but I'm not sure that'll work. I've even considered an OS reinstallation, but I'd rather not because of obvious reasons.

My system specs, in short, are:
Win 7x64 SWE, i5 2500k @ 3.3 GHz, MSI HD6870

Thanks in advance, for any help/info that comes my way!

Ok so I finally got around to testing this out and I had an older PC at home and I took its card (a hd 5670 I think), put it in my rig and it doesn't work either. Display drivers are still failing to be installed.

Earlier I was worried the MOBO might be failing on me. But the card (both my 6870 and the 5670) and its info is displayed correctly in the device manager. Also I can tell the card is being used because I can use the display, games use the card and stuff like that.

So I guess an OS reinstall is the way to go in this case then?

Reading your post is just like what is happening to my old XP rig.

AMD are known for failing to have new drivers which get rid of the old ones properly.

I has a similar issue last year; and weeks of messing around sorted it; but then I updated my graphics card recently, and thye problems have started again.

No doubt AMD want me to spend another few weeks of my spare time trying to get their drivers working.

Its the last time I buy their cards of the BETA doesn`t work.

I do so get bored of BSoD`s from installing AMD Drivers.
