Hello everyone,

I need to replace my graphic card on my old computer and i came across a good deal for a Radeon R9 290 card second hand from a known shop with 2 year warranty.

basically what i wanted to ask if its good idea to buy it 2nd hand, secondly if my computer would be able to use the card and not melt or something ;] (i know it might be best to upgrade all of the computer but right now its not a possibility, i do want a card that will last for awhile so the next time i do upgrade my computer the card wont be needed to upgrade)

so that's the card:
Radeon R9 290 GPU Used - 4GB 512 bit DDR5 memory - PCIe x16 3.0 interface - Dual DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort video outputs - Dual Slot Fan Cooler - GPU / Memory clock 947 / 5000 MHz

and this is the rest of my computer:
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67Ghz 2.66 GHz 4 cores
RAM: 8 GB
PSU : Antec VP500P V2 - 550W
Motherboard: intel dx58so

thanks in advanced for the replies

You should be able to use it. 550w is cutting it close though.

If you believe the shop will still be there in 2 years for any warranty claims go for it.

How much is the GPU? How much is a new 290 GPU in your area?

its a well known shop so it isn't likely to be closed down.
about the price they are selling the used card at approx 250$ while a new one from a similar shop is 520$.

first of all thanks for the advice's.

when your referring to my PSU cutting it close, what could happen if there would be a problem?
also about the size of the card how can i check if it would fit? i previously had a gtx 260 which was a pretty big card.

still have a hard time to decide. for the area i live in its a real bargain of a price and also with warranty :(

A new contender appears!
there is a sale for another card:
AMD Radeon HD7950 OC Dual-X With Boost GPU - 3GB 384bit GDDR5 memory - Dual dvi, hdmi, displayport video outputs - PCIe x16 3.0 interface
only 140$

from what i read it pretty close to the r9 and it might be easier on my PSU.
what do you guys think?

edit: guess i need to open a new thread about this , thanks everyone :)
