I can't SLI my 2 & 4 gb MSI geforce gtx 760's. I've been trying for many hours over a week and a half. I've tried switching the cards pci slots, new bridges, one bride or two, hdmi cable out of either card, and a thousand other things. i've also reinstalled windows & all.

rig:

windows 8.1 - 64 bit
msi z87-g45 mobo
i7 4770
750w corsair bronze psu
16gb ram
120 & 250 gb samsung ssds
1tb wd black HD
2gb twin frozr gaming edition vid card &
4gb twin frozr gaming edition vid card

the 2gb card has a bios of 80.04.c4.00.30 & Elpida ram
driver version - Geforce 344.48 WHQL - [R344_32-7]
the 4gb card has a bios of 80.04.c4.00.DA & Samsung ram
driver version - Geforce 344.48 WHQL - [R344_32]

all other values are the same for both models according to nvidia inspector & gpu-z

i'm at my wits end with these things. when i finally can get nvidia control panel to give the option for sli, as soon as i apply changes it flickers for about a minute then acts like sli is working. when you open something that would use 3d, it locks up. sometimes having to reinstall the drivers when windows starts back up. sometimes i have to disconnect one of the cards to get my display back up.

any help would be much appreciated
thanks in advance
dave

Solution
SLI requires them to have the same gpu and the same amount of vram. You use to be able to use coolbits to modify the drivers and get it to work with different amount of vram but that no longer works.
Quote from Nvidia's forums
"All GPUs must have the same amount of VRAM and an identical Bus Width
-- You cannot use a "2GB" version with a "4GB" version or "3GB" version with a "6GB" version in SLI or a 1GB 192 bit bus with a 1GB 256 bit bus Etc.
Note: It used to be possible to enable SLI on cards with differing VRAM but this is no longer available."

There is alot of wrong information out there on this issue. Even on this site there are people who argue that it will work and just use the smaller amount of vram, which Crossfire can do but SLI won't. I have personally tried it and know that it doesn't work anymore. Modifying driver to force SLI just causes system instability.

that's exactly what happened. newegg had a deal on the 4gb & i had read that it would work, just with two gb which i was originally ok with.

looks like i'm selling one of the two then. might have to check newegg's return policy

thanks guys
