Solution
What case are you building your system with? Be sure you setup a go airflow thru your case from front to back. Usually 12cn fans are a good choice with one in the fron to pull in cool air and one out the back to exhaust the hot air. You can even add on to the top if you have ports there. The AMD cards tend to run hotter then Nvidia so if you go AMD you'll need good ventilation. Regardless of what brand you get heat is the enemy of your system, so be sure you have a good air flow thru your case to protect your investment.

The H87-Plus has 2 PCI-E x1 slots and one more PCI slot then the H87M-Plus. The H87-Plus also has 4 USB 3.0 2 on the back 2 by header, and 10 USB 2.0 4 on the back and 6 by header. The H87M-Plus has 6 USB 3.0 4 on the back and 2 by header and 8 USB 2.0 2 on the back and 6 by header.

The i5 4690K is the best when it comes to gaming CPUs.There practically nothing that can beat it,except maybe the i7 Haswell-E's or something, but the 4690K is a great choice nontheless.
If you already have the 4690K,I would suggest getting an R9 280. Good performance for the price. Go with a Sapphire,Gigabyte,ASUS or HIS R9 280,all are great GPUs and have great coolers. Also, you may need a BIOS update on that H87M-PLUS before using the 4690K.Also,you won't be able to OC the 4690K on the H87M.
However,if you do not have the 4690K,I would suggest getting an i5 4440.Similar performance like the 4690K,but cheaper. This will allow for a stronger card, such as the GTX 770/R9 280X.

That motherboard will support the Haswell refresh model 4690K but you don't need the K model if you are not going to overclock. You could then put that money towards a better video card down the road. You can use your GTX 640 for now but as you would know it is an entry level gaming card at best. VGA card prices are dropping right now you may see some really good deals coming during the Black Friday sales.

thanks again for the response but I did order the 4690K early today. I am 64 & have built 4 systems but I never did a bios update nor do I know how. I can use some help on this. this site & you guys are very helpful

I don't think you need to do a BIOS update if you got the newest revision of the motherboard. Flashing a BIOS can be a issue with the most experienced SI. I wouldn't do it unless you absolutely have too. So at 64 which games do you play? Perhaps you don't need a high-end VGA card at all.
