Hello evryone.
I am slightly confused by some of the choices I am having to make on the way to buying my first gaming pc. I was first told that AMD's fx-6300 would be a great option. I then searched around for a while and decided an 8320 would be a better option. My local IT technician told me that a locked I5 (4460 particularly) would be a better option... All this has really confused me. could someone give me a close-to definitive answer please? My budget for the CPU is about £100, where the 8320 sits. I have been given an offer of an I5-2500k for £110 which I've heard is a good option.
Thanks in advance :)

Solution
Any 4th gen i5 in general. i5 4460 is under 140 quids on major sites, and will edge out FX 8 no matter how big the OC.
PS: you can save some quids by getting a relatively cheaper MoBo, you also don't need af cooling as CPU is locked.
I'd rather avoid FX right now, they do OC well but performance wise i5 edges them out. Also, the AM3+ platform is almost dead, 3 years old with no signs of major upgrade, meaning you'll not have any upgradibility. LGA1150 (i5 4th gen, not 2500k) is on the other hand an active platform, Haswell and upcoming Broadwell are based off it, and you can upgrade to i7 in future, meaning lots of upgradibility. Also, as far as 2500k is concerned, its a good CPU but I'd rather go for FX 8 instead.

Also, performance wise, it's i5 4th gen>FX 8~i5 2nd gen.

O.K. thanks for clearing that up then. What I5 would you recommend then? I can't really push to a 4690k or near that really without my GPU quality taking a beating
