I have a problem with my AKG K77 on Asus Maximus VII Hero. I plug them into the headphone jack in the rear I/O, and the Asus SupremeFX Realtek driver thingy thinks they're speakers. I try to manually choose "Headphones" instead of speakers, but it says "The device plugged in doesn't seem to be a headphone".
The main problem with this is that the headphones are quiet. I had the cheapest Gigabyte motherboard on socket 775, and the audio was much much louder on the same headphones, provided I selected "Headphones" instead of "Speaker" in the Realtek driver, which I can't do here.

I have a similar problem on ASUS Z87 pro.
Rear jacks recognize headphones, front jacks recognize my logiteck surround system.
As a result i can t have a proper sound...
I wonder if the motherboard is problematic or there is another problem.

If you plug the headphones in the front jack does they work properly?

Check that motherboard sound drivers are up to date and also if you got and drivers with teh headphones be sure to install them. Also as above mentioned check the audio jack AND try it on another device such as phone to be sure the haedphones are not faulty.

The same issue I can reproduce with my Asus Maximus VII with the newest drivers. My Senhheisers are detected, but Super Lux Dynamic HD661 Stereo Headphones not.
