I'm hoping that someone here might be able to provide some information. I recently purchased an Acer notebook. It's the Acer V3-572G-54S6. It comes with Windows 8.1. I would really like to install Windows 7 on this notebook, but I have a concern when it comes to the integrated GPU and the dedicated GPU.

The stats on the notebook:

i5 4210U 1.7GHz
8GB DDR3L
1TB HDD
Nvidia GT 840M 2GB
HD 4400 Integrated GPU

Currently, the notebook is setup to autoswitch between the inegrated and dedicated GPU pending usage. I believe that Nvidia Optimus is what provides for the switching.

I'm worried that if I install Windows 7, that it will mess with the notebook's capability of switching the GPU's via Optimus.

Does anyone have any experience with this and/or can someone ease my troubled mind before I take the plunge? Acer and Nvidia support were less than helpful.

I'm on day 3 with this problem, after noticing 0 NVIDIA GPU usage - always, even when adding programs to NVIDIA CPL > Manage 3D Settings >> ProgramSettings (and when right-clicking program shortcut).

The issue isn't hardware (I have an old build, also win7x64Ultimate, that DOES use the requested GPU....)

Install drivers in this order - http://forum.notebookreview.com/dell-xps-studio-xps/564192-dell-xps-15-r2-l502x-owners-lounge-74.html#post7415385

For those with working Optimus config, can you please confirm what's in "programs and features"?
(on working old build, there are two NVIDIA entries, one just says "NVIDIA Drivers" (same install date on both).

This may be the only difference between the builds.
Automatic updates is manual on new builds, auto on old (working optimus tech.) build... I've read the updates can cause this, also that install order is a factor...

Any info most appreciated
