please help me, I thought changing a cpu was easy but then I got a black screen idling when I first started it after the switch. I went and read online, apparently I had to update my bios and stuff. I am pretty sure I did but anyway I proceeded with putting back the phenom and the SCREEN IS STILL IDLING.....

please help. I feel very stupid now ...

the board is an asus m5a99x evo r2

disconnect your system from your energy source, after that take out the lithium battery in your motherboard, and waith for around 5 minutes, put the battery back in place, and everything you had disconected, plug your pc back,

the other option is using the jumpers on your mobo

you should check out if your mobo has support for the cpu you are buying before you change it :D sometimes is not just the socket that matters

Okay, here we are now.... The red light was my cpu not sitting properly into the socket becaause the heatsink was prying it too much. I put the new heat sink on the phenom and it runs. I did all the bios update and WILL try the fx tomorow. I hope this will work because clear cmos didnt...
