Looking to build a low profile server to host a few games for a clan, and a voip server like teamspeak. What cpu would be perfect for a low budget server unit like this. Probably would have 3-4 total server where as only 1 at a time would see traffic of 20+/- people at once where as others at this time would be relatively empty except voip. I was eyeballing either the fx 6300 or a lower i3 maybe 3240.

Both cpus are fairly close in price range with the fx 6300 being maybe a few dollars cheaper. But are these overkill for such a low profile server... or am I on the right track?

I'm say get an APU so you dont have to spend money on a graphics card you won't use.

It depends GREATLY on which game you pick to host though that will decide what kind of CPU you need, but hosting a server generally isnt too cpu intensive.

A stronger single core processor like an i3 or a A10/A8 would probably be the better option.
Ram will be your biggest drain, but 8 GBs would be a good starting point, and only add more if you find out you're using more.

And the single most important thing will be your internet connection, if it sucks your server will suck.
