If you have 4 sockets, and you have dual channel RAM, you have "paired" sockets (see your owner's manual). In all of the mobo's I have at home, they are #1 and #3 are the first set, and #2 and #4 are the second set. If you put the RAM in 1/3 or 2/4, the RAM works in dual channel mode. If you put the RAM in 1/2 or 3/4, they only work in single channel mode (slower).
Electricity issues? That would be an indicator of problems as well....damage to any part in the case can result from power surges....
