I am about to build a new gaming pc and was wondering what would be a better long-term CPU: Core i7 4790k or Core i7 5820k. This rig will need to last four years. Thanks for the advice!
As an amd option for a long term gaming cpu, i would suggest the amd fx 8350. It is under £130 at the moment(on ebuyer) and has overclocking potential. U will need a good cooler for it tho
The fx 8350 is also 4ghz stock!
It also features single thread performance worse than three year-old Intel processors, and a 4790K is also eight-threaded. More importantly, the question was which of the two options presented was more suitable.
Barring some weird universe in which consoles start actually being built with hardware comparable to available PC components, you shouldn't need more than the 4790 to play just fine for a while.
