Is a AMD 8 core worth it?

I'm wanting to build my first PC/Gaming rig and was woundering if the AMD 8 core is worth it? This is my build plan:

AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core Processor
Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-
UD3 ATX AM3+ Motherboard
G.Skill Sniper Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory
Seagate Barracuda 3TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
EVGA GeForce GTX 970 4GB Superclocked ACX 2.0 Video Card
Cooler Master HAF X ATX Full Tower Case
EVGA 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply
Pioneer BDR-209DBK Blu-Ray/DVD/CD Writer
Microsoft Windows 8.1 Professional (32/64-bit)

I will also be using the computer to do web and graphic design I'm looking to keep build aroung $1600-$1700.

Since you are doing design then 8core may be worth it but for your budget you could do I7 which is better.

If you can get any i5 quad-core running at least 3.0-3.5 Ghz, you will have better performance...at, well, everything. (4 Intel cores at 3.5 GHz will outperform 8 AMD cores at 5 Ghz) Sad, but true....

Ok cool I look more into the i cores I just read that the more cores you have its better for multi tasking and figured that I'd be doing alot of multi tasking doing web design and its hard to want to go Mac been a PC guy my whole life…
