2xGTX970 in SLI. Can I:
1.Use 3 screens each with its own resolution (if I maximize a window on the main screen, it should maximize on that screen alone - without spanning across all three monitors, yet I should be able to move windows from one screen to the other - extended desktops)

2.Game with Surround and SLI enabled (that's what I'm getting an SLI configuration for after all). 1 image across all three screens. (like a 3x1 Eyefinity)

3.If I want to game on a single screen (main one in the middle) - can I have the other two screens display the extended desktop areas (I'd like to view the Winamp playlist and other software on the other 2 screens while gaming on the center one)

Screens: 2 connected through DVI, 1 through DisplayPort.

i7Baby, thanks for replying.
1.So by just setting the preferred resolution in Display Settings, I would be able to maximize windows on individual screens, right? That's what multitasking on multiple monitors is all about, after all. I don't want 1 app to maximize across three screens.

2.The screens would be configured to "Extend desktop to this display" by default while I'm at the desktop and using software that doesn't support triple screen resolution (like modern games do). The thing is, games will only run on the middle screen if I don't touch anything, right? (That is, with "Extend desktop to this display" enabled for both of the other two screens)

What tells a game to run on a single screen or span across multiple ones? With AMD, you Enable/Disable Eyefinity - am I supposed to Set Surround in the nVidia Control Panel or something so that the computer spans the game across three screens? Would I still get SLI with Surround?

Are you saying that in order to take advantage of SLI I would have to enable it and disable it everytime I enter / exit a game?
Can SLI & Surround be enabled at the same time forever?

3. Not all games support "Window mode", if that's what you mean. What do you mean by "move the game window to one Display"?
Can I game on 1 screen while the other two display the desktop (with other apps in running in the background) WHILE TAKING ADVANTAGE OF SLI? (game would have to run fullscreen on the middle screen)

@bystander. Thanks for replying. There are two different situations:
1.I want to have SLI while gaming on a single screen (fullscreen) with other apps running on the other two screens.
2.I want to have SLI & Surround (since the triple screen resolution is higher, I need more GPU horsepower to sustain playable FPS hence the SLI config)

Can I have those two modes just like I can with a single HD 6950?

Well, if you want to game across all 3 at times, and 1 at other times, you will have to switch from 2D surround to just extended displays, which may be a pain. You might need to see if there is some 3rd party app to assist in doing this.

Windowed mode gaming is not an option if you want to maintain SLI.

I found a solution for you, I believe. Read this: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/201176-usability-tip-for-nvidia-surround-users/
For any of you out there that have had surround for a while may have noticed that a few months ago Nvidia disabled the ability for us to easily use the Winkey+P function to change from "Extended" (two monitors) to "Second Screen Only" (which enabled all three in surround).

You can set a macro key on your keyboard/mouse with the NVIDIA preset, couldn't you?
