i5 4690 Temperature Question

I just got an i5 4690 and after playing Crysis 2 for a good 30 min & monitoring the CPU temp, the maximum it reached was 70C.

My question is this: every time I checked it it seemed to be around 55 in the "current" column. Is the maximum column something to worry about? Should I only worry if its consistently at 70-ish?

70c is nothing to be extremely worried about but it could be better. are you using the stock cooler?

Stock cooler with thermal paste yes.

70 is nothing to be worried about. It is totally fine and quite normal actually.

for 4690
max T case = 72.72 degree Celsius
max Tj =77.72 degree Celsius (Tj = T case +5 )

So , you should keep the temperature below 77 degree Celsius
maybe 65-68 at full load is safe

So I've heard that 70 is fine, and also that it's only 7 away from the max. Those seem conflicting.

yeah.. lol i think it would be a good investment to get a after market cooler. stock coolers are pretty much junk anyway.

At 70 you won't have any major issue.If you hit the 80's you'll need get a better cooler. 7C is enough to make diff between water and ice.

You have spikes to 70 degree but what is the usual temperature at full load ?

That's what I mean - it does spike to 70 but never stays. Usually 55 while gaming. Is that normal? Is the spike anything to worry about?

the spike is normal with the stock cooler. they make them as cheap as possible without causing worrying temps. a lot of people don't even get use of the turbo with the stock cooler.
