I want to upgrade my gpu soon but I noticed that the prices constantly change and I don't know when it will be the cheapest. The card i want, r9 280, was said to be on clearance or something like that for about $170-$220 at the beginning of October. Are the prices for this gpu slowly rising back to the base price? Will there be a time when it will be even cheaper? I'm saving up money right now so I just want to know in advance when to buy hardware.

Solution
the price change for the r9 was mostly becaues of the release of the gtx 9xx series. i dont think the price is going to go back up because it would lessen the value and it would not be competitve enough for amd to position against it's nvidia equivalent. right now i think is a good time to buy a graphics card, if your in a country that celebrates cyber monday or black friday that would be a even better time, being that november is in like a week.

Nobody can predict the price changes. Take coin mining for example, graphics cards prices (At least for AMD) spiked nearly 300%. Now since maxwell has hit launch AMD has to cut its prices to stay competitive on the market.
I doubt prices will come down any more for either brand any time soon, and there is no reason that either will increase as well.

I do have to disagree on the Black Friday/ Cyber Monday. Computer hardware gets very little in the terms of price cuts, TVs for example get large price cuts, but hardware sells year round, so it typically wont be discounted much. Specifically current gen graphics cards, they will likely receive no price cuts for the sales. They are selling so well they are hardly found in stock anywhere. It would be an economically bad decision for the manufactures to discount the cards.
