Hey guys, I'm currently in the process of making a custom computer desk for my new setup. I have an e-atx x99 gigabyte Gaming 7 WIFI motherboard and i was just wondering do i need standoffs for the motherboard or can i prop it up with wooden stilts? Of course using where the standoff would be to screw the motherboard in place.

Thanks for the help!

If you place the MB on the wood desk then you don't need them. But you need rise the MB for the GPU bracket, or take the bracket off.

However the desk will be made of wood so this issue wouldn't matter? Its just the case of raising the motherboard so the graphics card sits in place without touching the desk.

I wouldn't have the back of the mb in direct contact with the wood surface. The sharp ends of the solder connections, combined with the very slight vibration of the fan(s), will eventually start to dig gouges in the wood.
