I have a DVI-D input monitor. I bought a HDMI to DVI-D connector/adaptor to get display from my PS3. But it does not work. I have tried all the settings of PS3 including holding the power button till it beeps twice and manually changed the video output settings but still it won't work. The monitor does get input (I mean it doesn't say CABLE NOT CONNECTED) but screen goes black.

Then I tried to connect it to my laptop and it worked just fine. The monitor displayed the laptop input.

So, three observations are:
1. HDMI is fine.
2. HDMI to DVI-D connector is ok.
3. Monitor is working.
4. PS3 works with HDMI-HDMI and AV-AV.

Help please.

Solution
Find out if your monitor supports HDCP over dvi. If not, that would be why the PS3 isn't displaying as the display needs to be compliant.
