I have an older dell that I was given for free awhile back and I am looking to upgrade it as cheaply as possible. It is basically this version: http://www.l3jane.net/doc//9150/specs.htm

It has dual core 3.0GHZ
3 x 533mhz 1gb ddr2 Ram
1 x 533mhz 512mb ddr2 ram
Psu 375 watts
The graphics card that I want to replace is Radeon X600 256mb Hypermemory.

I've narrowed it down to these two:
1) http://www.futureshop.ca/en-ca/product/asus-asus-geforce-210-1gb-gddr3-pci-e-video-card-en210-silent-di-1gd3/10206069.aspx?path=a93e82525e9db7126899a3f0c6832f35en02

2) http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/asus-asus-radeon-hd-5450-1gb-gddr3-pci-e-video-card-eah5450-silent-di/10206049.aspx?path=a5ce8fd4be157618645b5ffb803eb346en02

Both are within the same price range the Geforce 210 only needs 300w of power whereas the the Radeon5450 requires 400w. Some people have told me that my 375psu should run it but I am skeptical. Would both work on my computer? I have no idea if clock speed makes a difference or not. What one do you think I should choose?

Thank you very much for any help

they will both be fine in that system. they say they need 300-400w but thats a seriously high number, likely over-provisioning. i have an htpc using a 300w PSU and core i5 2400 and i have had no problems at all.

EDIT - my htpc also has an hd 5450 in it***

Hi

Does your power supply have a 12 V PCI-e power cables and if so with 6 or 8 pin connectors?

Neither of your options seems to need a pci-e power cable so both should work and a more powerful graphics card may be possible if the PCI-e connector exists
