I'm looking for advice regarding possible graphics card requirement for Photoshop and video editing with a Dell Inspirion 3847. I'm thinking of buying an Inspirion 3847. I use Photoshop and Corel Video Editor a lot, in bursts, for my own amusement, not work. Can I do that on the integrated Graphics Card or do I need a whole lot more? My old Dimension 8000 series quite happily saw to my Photoshop-ping and video editing needs and I'm guessing that that much loved beast had a weedy little integrated Graphics card. The words Graphics Card don't even appear in the manual! Thanks in advance for any thoughts and advice that's offered.

iirc=if i recall correctly

essentially, if you're not doing serious professional level video editing, you should be pretty much okay with intel integrated, especially the modern hd 4600 kit found on the haswell chips. for amusement? you'll be fine.

worst comes to worst, you can put a GTX 750 TI in there for around $120 if the performance isnt satisfactory. It's a fairly high performing chip that should run just fine even on the lower quality PSU that dell ships with their units. But if you're upgrading directly from a P4/early core 2 era dell, the i5 will be like lightning for you, even without a graphics card.

if your old dimension 8000 handled tasks fine, this new computer will smoke em. the old dimension 8xxx series didnt come with integrated graphics, and anyhow, intel integrated has come a heck of a long ways.

also, iirc, photoshop is a cpu oriented task.

Thanks voyboy fan. I wish I could afford a Mac. I'm not a gamer at all. Just interested in getting a bit of kit that will run with my Corel Video editing suite and Photoshop as well as my ancient Dell Dimension does, which I didn't buy a Graphics card for.
I just wonder if the integrated card in the 3847 will do the job because I understand there can be problems with an integrated card even though I've never experienced them myself and I assume I must have one in my old Dimension.

Hi blue17echo. Thank you so much for the reply. You've stated exactly what I had hoped would be the answer. In fact it seems my situation is even better than I had hoped. I'd assumed that the set up of today couldn't be worse than what I have been working with, but you never know! If my Dimension 8000 series didn't come with an integrated card then how come I can do anything with pics and video? Is it a separate card?
I hadn't realised that Photoshop is a CPU task though now I think about it, I guess it must be then the integrated card shows me what I did, yes?
Lastly, what is iirc?
Please excuse my ignorance. I'm really grateful.
