I had recently got this router to replace my Linksys EA4500, and I have noticed it being faster wother my laptop and gaming consoles. My download speeds are a little less for my 2.4ghz connection.

When I do a speed test I'm getting around 33-38mbps, while my old one gave be around 40-42mbps. Now sometimes my new Asus router will give 44mbps, but every other time.

Now I'm a little knowledgeable when it come to setting up routers. I set the channel to 1,6, or 11, 20mhz only, etc. But when I looked at the advanced settings, it was way more different than Linksys's.

So what do I need to do to make the speeds back on par with my old router?

Also kinda of a side thing but I noticed that my Laptop and my Roku-3 got the same IP address that they had on my old router. Should I be concerned?

first off what kind of internet do you have and what speed do you pay for? If you have Cable you're speeds will ALWAYS vary since it is shared bandwith. ATT/Verizon are dedicated in otherwords if only one PC is accessing the internet and you do a speed test it should be the same all the time. If you try to do it while someone is gaming online or download (Even for cable) then yea it will be slower.

Also the Channels aren't for Speed. They are there so that you can change it so if a lot of people are on Channel 1 around you and you change it to channel 17 you will have less interferance and less dropped packets. Doesn't really increase your speed.

Also Wireless (Even with wireless N450 on a 60 MBps connection) will almost always be a tad bit slower than being hardwired depending on how far you are from the router. Me persnoally have 15 MBps FIOS. I get 15 hardwired all the time. Wireless though i get like 10ish on a wireless N AP and the Router it self.

I have Comcast Blast internet, 105mbps down, 10-12mbps up. I also put the middle antenna straight and the other two on the side I put perpendicular, since I read that was the bestbest angle for them.

Does the laptop say how fast it is connected? does it use wireless G/N/AC?? Had the same issue with one client. Had a wireless G Router and only 100 Mbps switch and router and 60 Mbps internet. They were getting around 30-35 even on lan. Once i upgraded them go a Wireless N and Gigabit all around even the WAN port they got the full 60. But if laptop only has G on it that would explain why.
