Losing internet connection after ten minutes and unable to reconnect-- happens every time I turn on my computer

Hi, so for the past few days every time I turn on my laptop after about 10 to 20 minutes my internet cuts off telling me I am connected to the server but that I cannot connect to the internet. Every time this happens I am unable to reconnect to the internet unless I turn my computer off and on again, and then this whole process just repeats itself every time.

I've already checked and all the other devices that connect to the internet in my house and none are experiencing this problem. I've narrowed it down and it is definitely a problem with my device, I just have no idea what the problem is or how I can go about fixing it.

This has happened three times before with my laptop over the course of a year and a half or so where for about 3 days to a week I was constantly getting disconnected from the internet, whether I was connecting to my own network or one at school and a friend's house. Both times the problem seemed to fix itself on its own, but it keeps coming back every few months, again for this 3 days to a week period.

I am using a gateway laptop and I have had it for about 4 years now.

Hi,

If you´re using some kind of antivirus program i suggest trying disabling this while having trouble to connect to see if its not the program that makes the problems happen.
And make sure you only have 1 antivirus program and not 2, some spooky stuff can happen cause of this.

I´d run a malware scan aswell to see if theres any harmful malware/spyware on the computer. www.malwarebytes.org is a great program for this, works like a charm.

Since the computer is rather old you can do a reinstall on the OS system, i usually do this every 2 years to maintain some "freshness" to my system and updates.
