When I plug myself directly into the modem I get 130 Mbps, and when I go through the router it drops all the way down to 55 Mbps. I have a Linksys EA4500 router and I disabled all wireless networks it makes and I'm the only one plugged it and it still only has 55 Mbps.

That router should be able to handle up to 1Gb/s speeds when wired in and up to 450Mb/s on wireless. Try updating your LAN drivers on your PC to see if that helps at all. Most motherboards have native support for 1Gb/s speeds though.

You modem and router both have auto-sensing ports - make sure your cables are good. It should go from the ethernet port on the modem to the WAN port on the router. Then any of the 4 LAN ports should go to your ethernet port on the computer. I would try switching ports on the router, and possibly a new cable just to make sure it isn't a single port or a cable that is bad.

You should be able to get 100% of your 100MB connection through the router.
