I was wondering which card I should go with. I can get the 690 signature for around $300 or should i spend a hundred more for the 970?

690 isnt that old. Its quite a powerful card but higher the resolutions the more u will run in out of vram memory. Dont get me wrong the 690 was a beast in its days but a better option would be 970. Mayb at 1080p a 690 woild suffice but remeber every new game gen engine get more brutal day by day on the gpu. My money on the 970. Oh and dont forget u need a slightly good higher psu for the 690. The 970 comes out more energy efficient.

970s are around $300 as well I believe... Anyway, I would go with the 970 simply because it is a newer card with comparable performance. It also has double the VRAM which is becoming more and more important in newer games. 2 or 3 way SLI is also a much more reasonable possibility with the 970 in the future. Driver support will be better, games will be better optimized, cooler will probably be a little better.

The reasons for the 970 are stacked, the 690 was good in its time, but no reason to go backwards in your situation.

The only 690 I could find available is listed at 1,000. The 970 is $340, and the best card for the price available. The 970 will have much better driver support and SLI compatibility, like kylerjobe said.
