So I just put together a build for the family, and installed windows 7, went through the normal process, installed drivers and everything went smoothly. Until I went to install software applications, as I was browsing the web, it froze, the computer was unresponsive, I booted the computer up again, and the issue resurfaced. After a couple tries, I re-installed windows, from scratch to see if it was something apart of the registry, problem persisted. I have doubts on if it was a software issue, or a hardware issue. When i was building the pc, the 24-pin atx connector, did not sit snug with the computer, it is still a milimeter off, and hasnt clipped, on. It seems to be a problem with the cx line from corsair, but I do not know how to solve it and also have thoughts on if that is the cause.

But, what if the it freezes without having gone on the internet aswell, for example, I was opening a file on my USB (no browsers open), and it froze, I will give hpet a try, hopefully it works.

start with the mb make sure it has the newest bios file on it. download the newest bios file and update the bios from inside the mb. reboot go into the mb bios monitor screen check that the cpu temp and voltages are fine and stable.
with the intel cpu heat sink it has plastic legs and it easy not tot lock them in. what happen is the cpu run 50c or more telling users the heat sink not on right. in the bios make sure xmp profile is on. so that the mb sets the ram speed up right. with the pc off check that the ram in the right two slots if your using two dimms. if your running an assu mb make sure in the efi bios it set to standard mode. performace mode changes the cpu to ram speeds.

mate you can still get crashes outside explorer. i just mentioned it as an example. there are many other aplets on windows that use the real time clocks for syncing. internet explorer is just 1 of them.
when i first had this issue (same as yours random bsods and lockups) i wasnt surfing but playing bfbc2 (the whole screen went gray and had a repeating audio glitch) up untill then the pc had been on nearly a full day with no issues.
so yeah its worth looking into as it is a major cause of problems with win 7 because most people dont know about hpet and what it does so leave it disabled in bios.
