Suggested upgrade for XFX GeForce GTS250 1GB DDR3 graphics card

My 5 year old graphics card has gone bust. Want to upgrade it. Suggestions welcome.

My specs are as follows:

CPU: Intel Core i3 530 @ 2.93GHz
MOTHERBOARD: Intel Corporation DH55TC (XU1)
RAM: 8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3
OS: Windows 7 Professional Edition - 64 bit
PSU: Cooler Master 500W
Existing GRAPHICS CARD: XFX GeForce GTS250 1gb DDR3 RAM

got a PCI-e 2.0 x16 slot

I agree as well. Personally I tend to go for Geforce cards and would recommend the 750ti, but the 270/x would be a great decision as well. Anything better than that will create a bottleneck.
