my rig is
r9 280x
fx 6300
8gb ram

i want to upgrade my cpu and i can't decide between i5 4670k and fx 8350.I never overclock my cpu so i don't care if one is better overclocked than the other.
I want a future proof cpu and i heard somewhere that fx 8350 is more future proof because the next gen games are more cpu intensive.

If you're never going to overclock, just get a 4670 or 4690, don't get the K.

The 4670/90 will destroy the 8350 in all games and applications basically.

The socket for the 8350 has been dead for quite a while. they aren't making new CPUs for it.

But the socket for the 4670 is also technically dead, as they won't likely make anymore new cpus for it, as they pretty much just released the last set with Haswell-E / Haswell Refresh.

The people who say the 8350 is more future proof are lying to themselves. just google 4670k vs fx 8350 and you can see the results for yourself.

But you can't plug either of those cpus into the same motherboard as well, don't forget that.

For gaming the i5 is a clear winner. But where you don't oc don't waste money on a K cpu, they cost more because they are unlocked for overclocking get the 4670 or the 4690 instead. Also get a H97 or Z97(mainly if you want SLI support) board as they will support the up coming Broadwell cpu's if you want a future upgrade path. According to the rumors socket am3+ is finished as Excavator is supposedly going to use a new socket.

actually the z97 chipset is going to support the newer intel broadwell cpus so i wouldnt say its a dead end at all

First of all, you should be comparing the Devil's Canyon 4690k( the 4670k is garbage). Secondly, AMD is soooo far behind in the cpu game, AMD's 10 core would have a hard time surpassing Intel's most basic i3's.........
So yeah, the 4670k@stock would annihilate the 8350FX with a 5.0ghz OC(assuming the 8350FX doesnt blow up)
NEVER, EVER buy a non "K" Intel cpu(the cost on average is $9 more)
AMD has been failing miserably in every catergory, first their cpus, and now gpus are tanking badly. Doesn't matter what AMD promises they will do, they never produce good results with their hardware.
I'm guessing AMD will leave the desktop hardware industry in a matter of a year, as no one is buying their GARBAGE anymore......

Why is this even a question?

If you have the money, the i5 4690K - if you will overclock, or i5 4690 - if you will not overclock.
If your budget is limited but you still want to upgrade something - the FX 8350.
