Hi guys, I'm not very good with technology so any help or information would be greatly appreciated!

My laptop started to hang last week but it only happened a couple of times and I think that was cause of overheating and also cause I was running autocad, but I thought to add it in cause it may be related or helpful to solving the problem?

So yesterday the whole screen pixelated while I was on Chrome surfing with YouTube on, nothing else was open. It pixelated, hanged and the screen shut off after a few seconds. However the fan was still running so I'm thinking maybe it went off to sleep mode? Also, the music stalled and stopped a few seconds after the screen went blank.

Today the same thing happened but it happened 3 times throughout the day. I went on a few forums and discussions about similar situations and it seems like it might be some sort of fault with the graphics card? I didn't update or do anything to the software, just been using it as I have been for the past few years. can anyone shed some light with what's going on with my laptop and what I should do to fix it?

These are the pictures I managed to snap in between when the pixels came on and the screen going blank:

Once again, any help would be greatly appreciated and thank you so much in advance for your patience and advice!

I'm using a Dell Studio 1558 with an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5400 Series running on an intel i7 core.

Hi James,

Thanks for your advice, I updated my ati to the latest driver and it was fine for a day and it happened again yesterday. I decided to try to restore my comp to the last factory setting (04/13) and it was restarting after finishing the formatting, the screen showing "setup is preparing your computer for first use", and then the pixel screen came on again and now the screen is blank while the laptop is still running. Does that mean it's not a software but a hardware problem? Would you know which hardware problem it may be? Thanks for your time and advice!

I have already reinstalled everything and set it back to factory settings and it still happens, is there anything else I could try?
