Hopefully I am doing this right. :)

Approximate Purchase Date: Soon? I want to give this as a Christmas gift. I’m unsure if I should order now or wait until closer to Black Friday/Cyber Monday. I’m worried about parts availability but don’t want to spend more money than I have to. Thoughts?

Budget Range: $1000 Before / After Rebates; $1100 Before / After Shipping – Would really prefer this to be around $800 pre shipping but have been unable to get in that range.

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Some gaming such as World of Warcraft, Diablo 3, Skyrim. Word processing, Web browsing, watching movies, very light video/picture editing.

Are you buying a monitor: Yes but may not need to do it upfront. I want to purchase a 23” wide screen but can use the current monitor until I can find a good deal.

Parts to Upgrade: All this is a new build.

Do you need to buy OS: Yes

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Newegg.com

Location: Wentzville, Missouri, USA

Overclocking: Maybe but highly unlikely.

SLI or Crossfire: Maybe but not to start

Your Monitor Resolution: Unsure at this time as I am not at home but I think it is 1440x900.

Additional Comments: Would prefer to have a windowed case with LED fans. A quiet computer would be nice. I’m building this for my wife and she hates how loud her current PC is.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: She built her computer in 2006 before we got together. It is starting to show its age and instead of upgrading it, we’d like to build a new one together. This one was built in a previous relationship and has bad memories attached to it.

Include a list of any parts you have already selected with descriptively labeled links for parts. Please do not post only links.

She will be using her current mouse and keyboard as well as current monitor unless we can find a good deal.

The only other detail is that I am electing to put only an SSD drive in because I may harvest her old HDD from her old PC to put in as extra memory if needed; however, she doesn’t keep a lot on her PC. We are gamers but play games most don’t consider too intense. World of Warcraft, Diablo 3, Star Wars: The Old Republic…things like that. She is an amateur writer so word processing is important but I feel like that doesn’t take much. Does this build look like it will stand the test of time and be future ready when its time to upgrade?

Overall the build looks pretty good. There are a few things I would change. The 660 is getting a little outdated. You'll get better performance for the price if you go with an AMD R9 270X. http://pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-video-card-r9270xgaming2g

Also, if you're not planning on overclocking or SLI than you don't need a 750W PSU. However, your current setup is Crossfire (not SLI) and overclock capable, so this is something you may want to consider doing, at least in the future. Regardless, XFX makes better quality power supplies at a good price. You can get a 550W version (no overclocking or crossfire) or a 750W (Crossfire and overclocking). http://pcpartpicker.com/part/xfx-power-supply-p1750snlb9

Otherwise everything looks nice. If you want a monitor suggestion, this Asus is quite nice if you don't mind sacrificing an inch and a half of screen size. http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-monitor-vx228h I use it myself. There are 23 inch models for $20 more dollars if thats what you want.

Almost forgot. I believe in this price range it could definitely be beneficial to wait until Black Friday to purchase this. I had a friend who purchased a PC in the same price range and got more than $100 off.
