Slow Transfer Speed from Seagate 1 TB External Hard Drive and USB Flash Drives

Hi, everyone

I have a problem I am hoping someone can help me with.

When I am transferring files to my internal hard drive from either my external hard drive or my USB flash drive, I initially get decent speeds, but after a few minutes, the speed drops off precipitously. I have noticed this seems to occur when transferring single files of large size (like system images). When the transfer consists of many smaller files, the speed seems to remain reasonably high.

I have attached a screenshot of what happens when I try to transfer a 20 GB system image from my external hard drive. This same thing also happens when transferring my USB flash drive as well.

Also, I have tried this on both of my computers and they both have the same problem. They are both running Windows 8.1. In addition, I have tried setting the drive up for Better Performance and enabling Write-Caching, but this did not resolve the issue. I have also checked and all of my USB drivers are up-to-date.

Thank you in advance for your help!

I apologize for any confusion, but I am not transferring to a system image. I was just illustrating what happens by transferring a 20 GB system image from my external hard drive to the internal hard drive on my PC. I was using the transfer only to reproduce the slow-down effect.

So is this even a problem or am I just expecting too much out of the transfer speeds? Basically, is it normal for transfer speeds to slow down to just a few MB/s on a USB 3.0 transfer?

Sorry to have taken so long to come back to this thread. Anyway, I have built an entirely new PC and am having the same issue. The transfers start out fine (about 80 MB/s), but then drop down to a few KB/s. After 8 hours of transferring, I checked and only about 15 GB have been transferred.

All of the drivers are up to date, by the way. Any ideas?
