I currently have a dell inspiron 660s and I want to use the ram, and hard drive in it and get new parts. here are my questions:

1.) On CPU-z it says that i have 6 gb, and that I have 2 sticks, and that its ddr3, and the dram frequency is 665.4. But that x2 is not 1333, its about 1330. The motherboard I plan to get is a MSI 760GMA-P34(FX) micro atx mobo that supports 1600, 1333, 1066, 1866 (and it also says oc. whatever that means). can I use the ram I have now or does it not work with the mobo?

2.)Is there a way to see how many watts your pc is consuming?

3.) When will you find the best sales. Christmas time? Cyber Monday? black Friday? and if so, what are there usually sales on?

4.) does the AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core Processor have hyper-threading? are there any cheaper options that have hyper threading but still good?

5.) when I switch motherboard and CPU but keep the same hard drive, will I still have windows? or there something I need to do to keep windows? or do I just need to buy windows again. and will the HDD in the Dell inspiron 660s fit/ work with another motherboard and stuff?

I think that those are my only questions. I will be putting this PC together in December. Please try to answer any of the questions that I have. I'm just kinda scared because usually when I do stuff like this I end up breaking something or screwing up, so this time I'm trying my best to be sure that this PC will work without having to deal with a pc that doesn't work. Last time I bought a really old and bad GPU and put it in the screen wouldn't turn on. I'm very exited! Thanks a lot for any help!

1: ram can probably be re-used. Dell lists it as two sticks of 3gb DDR3 modules. An Odd size but I dont see why it couldnt work barring motherboard incompatibility.

2: Yes, turn it off, plug it into a watt meter, turn it on and launch an graphics intense game; other wise you would just get a rough estimate.

3: Black Friday, Christmas, Back to school are the best sales in my area.

4: no amd processors can officially use Intel's Hyperthreading technology. The FX processors are not full core you know. The 8350 is 4 modules and each modules have to share some resources: such as L1 & L2 Chache, and the FPU (Floating Point arithmatic Unit); between the 2 cores. Ie - each module has one L1 cache, one L2 cache, one FPU, and two execute...

665 is within spec; it's normal.

2. Get a Kill-A-Watt meter.

3. Sometimes you can find sales around Black Friday for components, but don't count on it.

4. No, it does not have Hyperthreading.

5. You should always reinstall your OS when installing a new motherboard and/or CPU so there are no driver conflicts. Your copy of Windows is OEM, so it is probably tied to your current motherboard and you will most likely need a new copy of Windows.

5: Your HDD will still have windows but it wont work. Going from Intel to AMD almost never does easily. The OEM version for windows that came with the DELL will not even install on the new motherbd. They are tied to work on a few versions of motherbd and wont install unless they see one of those acceptable model#'s when it scans the motherbd.

You might want to signup & download the Windows 10 Technical preview. Just before launch they often offer the full release version at a nicely discounted price to us "testers".
