Hi guys I had some problems before with this card (BIOS flash got screwed up) but I fixed it but problem I had never went away. Let me give you just highlight.

I purchased R9 290X and Right away I decided to update BIOS on GPU (never done that before and will never do again) So after that I don't know if I had this problem to begin with or after BIOS re flash but IF I put my card in PCIX_1 Port then I'll have VERY low FPS and Catalyst driver will crash and recover pretty much within 20 seconds after ANY GPU activity. It could be a game or a web page with some video or you tube ....or screen saver. In desktop everything is fine, when GPU start to be active right away Catalyst crash and recovers. In games FPS is very low, actually it's a wave goes up and down up and down constantly.

Now until now if I put this card in PCIX_3 slot on my X99 Deluxe Motherboard everything is just fine no problems at all, no driver crashes or anything , fps and performance as it should be. So PCIX_1 = bad fps and Catalyst crash with PCIX_3 all good to go.

Now I have older RIG and I tested that card on that rig played on PCIX_! and PCIX_3 port NO PROBLEM at all, so I was thinking well than it's a port on my X99 Motherboard, so I put my older HD6970 card in to it. Again NO PROBLEM.

So only problem is when I use my X9 290X on PCIx_1 port. all other options work just fine, including using different card on this PCIx_1 port and wise verse using R9 290X on diffirent motherboard on all ports, card also works without a problem.

Now couple of days ago i noticed some artifacts on screen while playing and today once again. Guys what is going on ? A already have a ticket with ASUS about my PCIx_1 and PCIx_3 issue where it works on one and don't work on another. But now this ? Now to be clear this is happening On X99 Deluxe on PCIx_3 port when b4 it was all perfect, I mean it still is if I restart this artifacts goes away, also during this artifacts performance are untouched, no crashes.

What you think, RMA card ?

Here is Video 1 and 2 of artifacts. Also I am familiar with artifacts when card is overheating and some pins ..(well they are actually little balls) don't have good connection between PCB and actual GPU chip but this is different, I can hardly call it artifacts when it's a overheat issue it looks like a damn cable is messed up or something .... cable is fine just FYI.

Thank you please let me know what you think.

PS on first video I am showing when desktop free of any rendering content nothing happens when I get Wow Launcher RIGHT AWAY you see lines .....none when I minimize launcher back.

P.P.S.

While I was writing this, this is the longest I was with this lines on screen. and Just now they went away ....screen is clear again no lines at all. It was around 10 minutes they were on screen before clearing out, but when after another 5 mins they came back. So ..donno.

Okay, I have contacted ASUS, and tech recommended something that I haven't though about. He asked me if I am testing PCIx_1 port with PCIX 3.0 card. And it looks like HD6970 is 2.0 card and according to him this test is invalid because card when using 2.0 specs are using totally different data lines and if 2.0 work on my PCIx_1 port it means nothing. If I really want to test I need to get any cheap video card but it has to be 3.0 and test it in PCIx_1 to see if driver crashing and low FPS are there and look in PCIx_3 if any artifacts are there.

What you think guys.
