Hi everyone, need your help,
My USB suddenly stopped working, when I plugged it into my computer it said it "needs to be formatted".
I tried using command prompt chkdsk /f G: , which came with the message "The type of file system is RAW"
I then took it too a computer shop near by and ask if they could restore/retrieve my data, he plugged it into the computer and ran some strange program and said it will take 3 hours with no guarantee he can restore anything...
I said no thanks,
I did some more research and downloaded EASEUS and was planning to restore the data with that.
But now when I connect my USB it does not appear in my computer or in Driver management so I can't run EaseUS to restore the files as my computer does not show the device at all.
When I connect the USB it says Driver successfully installed" Innostor NAND Flash USB Device" & "USB Mass Storage Device"
But I cannot see anything in my computer, I have gone into device manager and uninstalled the Innostor driver , reboot update driver etc...still nothing.
Is there any way I can retrieve the files on my USB, its only one word.doc file that I want.
I then tried to connect my USB to a Linux pc, the device appeared in my computer under "Innostor NAND Flash USB device" but I could not open the device it just said "unable to mount" or something like that.
How can I find out if the computer shop didn't accidentally click Format and erased all my data...
Please help me.
Thank you for any help and advice

Hey phu. That doesn't sound good. Probably your USB flash drive has failed. If it shows your partition as "RAW" the only way to retrieve your files is data recovery software. There's no way of knowing if the worker from the shop has messed it up, but try opening Disk Management to see if it's recognized there, you could also try if a data recovery program can "see" the flash drive.
Here's a thread which might help: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-1644496/lost-data-recovery.html

Hope that helps.

Hey boogie,

Thank you very much for your quick response mate.
Yep I have tried using EaseUS data recovery tool to see if it can see the flash drive but it doesn't appear on the screen. Is there anything else you think I can try, the computer seems to just install the driver but it does not appear in my computer (removable disks)...
I'm sure if I had downloaded EaseUS program earlier I would of been able to restore the files as I can see the USB disk and click scan and retrieve etc.
I just need to know if there is any other way to retrieve my data.
Thank you again for your help

If you say that the Linux PC detects it. What you could do is try to open it via Linux LiveCD on your Windows computer. Take a look at this article here: http://lifehacker.com/5984707/five-best-system-rescue-discs
It includes info on that as well as a couple of other things which might help.
Other than that it looks like the flash drive is failing or has failed already... I hope you are able to retrieve your data.

Good luck.
