Hi Guys!
I came to you for second time with a problem. I build my desktop PC almost a year ago, all fine until the last week when my motherboard stopped working: No boot screen, no POST, only the number 99 in the right corner. The technical in the store diagnose bad motherboard and PSU, but is too hard for me to uy these tow parts. He tested the cpu and memory with another motherboard and PSU and all works just fine.

My PSU still works BUT if i power off the PC (with the power button, disconnecting the cable from the wall or using the power switch on the psu) the pc power on again by itself when I conect the PSU again to the wall without presing the power button. We tested the PSU with another 1150 motherboard and the same i7 4770k cpu and memory and the happen. But i made a test with an old PC with a intel celeron processor and it works perfectly without power on by itself. I dont want to buy another PSU. Is this PSU bad? is fixable? Can this PSU broke my new motherboard? I will appreciate any help. THANK YOU!

Hardware spec:

Motherboard MSI Z87-G45 Gaming
PSU: Corsair HX650W
Ram: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8gb
Processor: i7 4770K

Sorry my BAD english.

If your computer case has a reset button then it can also be used as a power button because that switch is also a momentary contact switch.

You are sure that your PC power on with the plug disconnected from the wall??!! Because it is impossible.

If your PC powers on with the wall switch off, it sounds like there are some problem with the electric lines of your house. Get it checked as soon as possible with a qualified electrician.

Thanks for your repply Bluemoon_9. Sorry, I mean "the pc power on again by itself when I conect the PSU again to the wall without presing the power button" I edit the post. This happen in the store technical support. Also if i power off the pc and dont disconect the cable of the power the pc turn on again. This not happen with the old pc. Any idea?

Hmm.. Two probabilities here

1.If your PC switch on with the power switch off the PSU, the PSU can not cut the and in all probability it's faulty. I definitely recommend to RMA the PSU. Corsair warranties are usually very good and you will get a replacement PSU. And it's risky to use a PSU that has this type of serious problem.

2. Your PC doesn't switch on with the power switch on the PSU off, but it boot's up when it is on. In that case the motherboard or the start/stop switch is faulty. Check the connection with the mobo and the start/stop switch. If it's ok, go the store and try to see how it behaves with another generic front panel (start stop switch/usb/headphone connection panel).

Maybe i dont explain me well.

*The pc dont power on when the power switch of the PSU is off. The pc turns on if a power on the PSU without pressing the power button of the case.
*I tried using this PSU with another motherboard and the same happen.
*The motherboard with another PSU not work, just show the number 99 on screen.
*I tried the motherboard and psu outsite of the pc case and power on the system using the power junper (without the button) That means the pc case or the power button is not the problem.

I already ordered a new motherboard but im not sure if buying another PSU or not. I cant
RMA the PSU because corsair requires the original owner invoice and i dont have it. Anyway, looks like a need to change te PSU. Any other ideas?

Thank you for your support Bluemoon_9.

The power supply should only turn on when the motherboard tells it to turn on. That said, look in the motherboard's BIOS and there should be a "state after power off" or "state after power failure" or something to that effect. If it's set to "on" or "last state", etc. THAT is why your PC is turning on as soon as you plug in the PSU. Set this setting to OFF.

Hi

Thanks for reply guys. I ordered new motherboard and new power supply and i have the same problem. I "last state"
is set to off by default. I desconected the power switch button of the case and use the button of the motherboad to power on the pc and the problem is solved. I think the problem is the power button of the case. I cant confirm it yet... You think i need a new case or ths problem is fixeable?

Sorry my bad english.

That description tells me that the power switch is stuck in the ON position. The computer case's power switch is only suppose to make momentary contact when pressed.

If your computer case has a reset button then it can also be used as a power button because that switch is also a momentary contact switch.
