I am looking at replacing my old router with a new one and am trying to determine which of these would be best. I don't have any AC compatible devices yet, but for only $20 more I assume it would be better to have for future devices. My goal is to have this as my primary router and will be putting my old D-Link DIR-655 in bridge mode as an ap/range extender (replacing the Linksys E-1500 that currently has this job, and is beginning to fail).

I assume the firmware is very similar between the 2 Asus', but would there be any reason to go for the N66 over the AC66 besides saving $20?

There is no good reason to go for an N router at this point, other than cost. In fact, the AC routers actually have better N performance in some benchmarks. In addition, it will be more likely that the newer AC router will get future firmware upgrades down the road that the N model will not get.

For sure go with AC, and that Asus model is a good one.
