I am looking to upgrade from a GTX 580 (which for some reason crashes on some of the newer games: I'm pretty sure it's overheating)

What's the best card upgrade for the price for my system?

CPU - i7 2600k
16 GB RAM
Mobo - Asus P8Z68 Deluxe
HD - Samsung 240 GB SSD
Windows 7
Monitor BENQ 24"

Budget: 200-300

I'm tempted to capitulate the extra $100 for the 780 ti. It has 2880 cuda cores but is running on the old architecture. Is there really much of a difference between the architectures or do they just improve power efficiency etc?

architecture change is a big difference .. newer architecture tend to be more effective at its task and draws less power ..
you will see a difference
