Help: Win 7 64bit showing 8GB usable RAM when 16GB is installed.

Hi,

I am using a GA-55A-UD6 MB and with 4 x 4GB on dual slot memory. As of the MB manual, I installed on the correct memory slot if I am using 4 DDR3 RAMS. Using CPU-Z shows I have 16GB too. I can't seems to figure how to make window detect the full RAM. Hope to get some advise here.

power down and check there no dirt in the slots and reseat the ram. if they show up again in windows as 8g. see if your mb has any bios updates that add newer ram code.

go to start type in "resource monitor" and go to the memory tab...how much ram do you have installed according to resource monitor?

Start by pressing the windows key and typing msconfig then hit enter. Go to advanced options in the Boot tab. Make sure "Maximum memory" is unchecked.

When you buy singles instead of a matched kit, you take it on yourself to do your own compatibility testing. Next time try buying a matched kit that is guaranteed for compatibility.

I'm experiencing the same problem. I'll check the serial number written on the package, but it's a pair of Corsair Vengeance (2x8Gb, 1866 MHz). I'll try the steps shown above and then I'll feedback about it.

Windows 7 Home Basic - 4 GB - 8 GB [You must be using the X64 of this Windows Version. Hence, due to OS limitation, only 8GB is allowed to use, even though it detects the full 16GB]
Windows 7 Starter - 2 GB - N/A

Forgot to tell it before, but my rig is running W7 Ultimate x64. Mobo is M5A99X Evo R 2.0. Strangely but, in last year, just before thinking about increasing the RAM value, I was using a pair of Corsair Value Select (2x4Gb, 1333 MHz), and it was running in dual-channel, but with the new pair it isn't.
