Hello everyone,

This will be my first build. Would like some input on my build components i have so far decided on or recommendations on different builds.

Waiting to purchase these components:

CPU: AMD FX-6300 Vishera 6-core
MOBO: ASUS M5A78L-M LX Plus
GPU: GeForce GTX 750 ti
PSU: Corsair CX500w 80 Plus Bronze
HDD: WD Caviar Blue 1tb
RAM: x1 8gb Kingston Fury X
CASE: Rosewill FBM-01 Dual Fan

I have mouse, keyboard, monitor, optical drive, and an Extra 80gb WD HDD for my os only.

What I'm looking to get out of this system is: daily usage for school reports, some decent gaming, mostly for Borderlands TPS and a few others. would like mid to high settings

Any advice and input is welcome.

Thank you

I made edits, better motherboard, strong graphics card, and a more reliable PSU.

Exchange the Corsair PSU for an EVGA 500b PSU as they seem to be more reliable and you might want to use 2x4GB sticks instead. Also, the GPU could be swapped out for an R7 265 for greater performance. The case could be substituted by a NZXT source 210 as well to give you a bit more space to work with.

Thanks for the fast replies! The only reason I haven't considered the nzxt case is because it only comes with 1 fan. Would I be abke to fit my old pc fans in there? If so I prefer that one on looks as well as space

As long as your case supports it. If you have a 120mm fan, your case needs to have 120mm mounts. To measure your fans, just get a ruler and measure one of the sides. Use mm and cm as units by the way.

also, case fans rarely make a large amount of difference in computer cooling. the nzxt will make up for the loss of fans with a more open case design.

I would personally think about getting a z97 board with a pentium g3258 and a CM Hyper 212 evo cooler. You'll get actually fairly similar performance and power usage with a pretty mild overclock, and you'll be able to pick up an i5 in a couple years, whereas the AM3+ socket is looking pretty dead (and in gaming, even the highest end AMD processors lose around 5-10 FPS to competitive intel products anyways.)

I'd also echo the 2x4gb instead of 1x8gb for memory. Memory speed isnt super important, but dual-channel is essentially a free upgrade.

what exactly is overclocking? Havent read much on that and how would i go about getting overclock? Also, if I were to go with the Pentium, and the other recommended parts you just posted, would I use the rest of the parts I had planned? what would be your initial setup using what you stated?

An i3 yields about the same performance as an overclocked G3258. You could change the CPU to an i3-4130 and the motherboard to an H97 board. It may be a bit more expensive, but you get an upgrade path as well as great performance with the current processor.

one of the main reasons im leaning more towards the fx6300 is, its a bit cheaper and had 6 cores compared to the duos. Anything (core-wise) i should pay attention for gaming and normal daily multitasking (i.e. itunes, music downloader, internet at the same time)

With the replies towards my originally planned build here is what i have:
