I'm being told that I need to BIOS update. I need to have at least a a Haswell CPU that way you can at least update the BIOS. I do not have a Haswell CPU as this is my first build ever. I have an i5-4690K and a MSI Z97 G45 motherboard. Is my motherboard that old to BIOS update? Do I need to BIOS update?

If you can check the motherboard s/n before buying it,
then depending on the manufacture date (4 digits after B), you can find out the BIOS version.
