Hi all, currently have 4gb Spectek DDR3 1333 CL9 UDIMM, Have just bought 8gb Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1333 CL9, do i ditch the 4gb and just use the 8gb or will they both work together?
Mobo is Gigabyte 78LMT S2P with AMD 3gb dual core processor.
Many thanks peeps!

I'd think the GPU would play a larger role than the RAM. I guess you should have ordered two 8GB sticks, then you'd have a matched pair!

Since this is for newer systems, more RAM might help. I guess I was thinking more...

You can run them together, assuming you are running a 64bit OS. It will run dual channel for the first 8GB. You don't need 12GB, but you might as well not waste the stick.

As for Joeteoh99's recommendation, some people have issues with mixed RAM. If you notice issues, just yank the 4GB stick. Won't hurt to try it.

Thanks Joeteoh99 and nvalhalla.
I will be running Win7 64bit in an arcade cabinet running Hyperspin and multiple emulators, nothing too big or scary (or so i thought!). Picked up the 8gb from Amazon as it was reduced from £85 down to £37 and couldnt not grab a bargain!
Is there any real benefit in using 4gb as well or would i pretty much be wasting my time? Sorry for the daft questions but i have been out of the game for several years now and seem to have forgotten everything i once knew!

In an arcade cabinet for emulation, you won't use 1GB, let alone 12GB. You almost assuredly won't notice any difference. Now that I know what the PC is for, I change my answer. Don't bother with the 4GB stick. The benefit of dual channel and extra RAM isn't even worth the possible issues mixed RAM might cause. You really won't need that much memory.

I am looking at present to emulate up to and including PS2, Dreamcast etc but also the frontend end i am using is very graphics intensive. Arcade Roms generally run on anything within the last 20 years, but some of the more recent games suffer badly from stutter and lag even on a dual core 64bit 4gb ram setup.
I know of people running Hypespin who use an 8core 4gb with 16gb Ram who still have the occasional problem so am striving to get the best setup i can within my budget. Sounds bloody daft doesn't it? Lol.

Since this is for newer systems, more RAM might help. I guess I was thinking more MAME and NES.
