Computer keeps crashing during gaming

Hello everyone! I'm just writing here because I need some opinions and some help too. I have been into computers for almost 18 years now and know a lot, but just got to know what would you guys do in my situation.

First crash was because of the AMD stock cooler, didn't cool enough, I bought new one and no problems since except lately it started all again. Computer shuts down completely during gaming, no prior warnings, no odd graphical clutter, no lag, nothing. After that it won't restart for 5-30 mins time (which seems like computer is cooling itself) and I was sure it's a overheating problem.

Started watching temperatures, cleaned every bit of dust there is and checked everything (fans, bios settings, updated bios also, which reduced temps a bit. Checked the cooler that it's properly installed too).

Last week though, I realized it's not probably overheating problem after all, since all my temps are in acceptable range during gaming and computer stress test didn't shut down computer (didn't do more than an hour though).

I have experienced (what I have seen) 60c for CPU and 70c for GPU. Not bad at all. Continued playing for an hour or less before crashing. Mostly my temps just hang around 50c for CPU and 60c for GPU.

Also I bought a new case for my computer with proper cooling and ventilation, haven't yet installed it, but when I do, I'm gonna change my thermal paste and also ensure my cooler has properly reinstalled.

Meantime, I need some thoughts on this, what else could it be. GPU? PSU?

My current specs as follow:
Motherboard - Asus M5A97 EVO R2.0
CPU - AMD FX-8320 (got Noctua NH-U12S cooler installed)
Memory - HyperX 8GB 1600mhz
GPU - GTX 560TI (Asus factory overclocked one)
PSU - LC Power LC6650GP3 V2.3 650W

Thanks in advance!
- Diablo

Ps. have also checked lot of threads and advice about this problem, so far nothing much.

Hmm if it is staying off for that long it almost sounds like a PSU issue almost as if one of the Protections have kicked in and it shut your system off.

BTW what type of stress test did you run when you did stress it?

Since it's not recommended to disable Surge protection, I will have to try new PSU. This one has been about 3 years now.

But first, Im gonna go with the new case and try with better cooling to see if problem persists - doing the change today or tomorrow.
It's probably not the solution but I just wanna make sure first.

I will let you guys know how things progress.

That could be the reason why the game would cause it and not the stress test. Although a stress test will cause higher temps on the CPU or GPU when run alone a game will cause a higher load on the PSU due to both the CPU and GPU being under a high load (although not as high as a stress test load). If you ran a stress test for the CPU and GPU at the same time you would likely cause the same issue that crashed your system. (for instance Prime95 and Furmark at the same time). Given this is likely a PSU issue I wouldn't recommend it. Although you could run Furmark alone if you want to stress test your GPU.

Yeah I thought so too. Processor seems fine, I will test GPU too to make sure. Thanks.

By the way, just came in mind if 400 watt power supply would be nearly enough for my system if I test it? I just remembered that I have one in my closet.

I doubt it my system a Phenom II 955 OC to 3.6Ghz (no voltage change) with a 7870 can clear 440W according to my Backup Battery at full load. According to Anand the 560Ti uses 30W more than the 7870 at full load. The 8320 also uses more power at load than the 955 so it likely still uses a bit more power than my OC'd 955. Given that the 400W PSU would likely blow. You would need I would say at least a good quality 550W PSU for your system.

Allright. I changed my computer inside new case but didn't get the front chassis fans working: don't have the right molex power cables. I just ordered some and could take some time before I get to try.

Meantime I noticed that getting graphics lower in games doesn't crash my computer. So if it's my PSU it cannot handle max / high graphics on some games although my GPU and CPU should be able.

I will wait until I get my ventilation working properly so I can try again with max graphics (computer last time crashed) if it continues to do so, I will order new PSU. I will let you know, but thanks for everyone in advance! Gonna pick best solution later on :)
