Alright so I currently have an intel inspiron 620 which I had for close to 3 years. Recently I've wanted to start some casual gaming and start upgrading. I planned to buy an sapphire r7 260x but after a little bit of research I've been extremely worried my system isn't fit for it.

I know all about which cards are a good choice yada yada. My issue is the actual upgrading ect.

I have an intel i3-2120
An amd radeon 6450
The power supply has 300w
The motherboard is an intel GDG8Y, But searching it doesn't give me clear results as to if this is the right board I have and how many pins and stuff for the GPU.

Basically I want to know will I need to get a new mother board, then a new PSU or is this going to work and run fine. I also plan to add another 4gb stick in there, as that seems to be possible instead of buying a full 2x4gb.

The GDG8Y has a single PCI-e slot on it, so it can handle a modern graphics card, but your power supply does not have a means to power the card.

The best solution would be to buy an Nvidia GTX750ti that can draw all of it's power from the PCI-e slot. this low-power (wattage) mid-range card is intended for this purpose, upgrading older systems. The GTX 750ti is two to five times better/faster than your existing card. Heck, modern Integrated Graphics are better than that card, I think.

To use the 260X will require a new power supply as well, just for the power to drive the GPU, but it will fit in the motherboard that you have.

So if I buy the more expensive gtx 750ti I can run it without having to buy any new connectors or a new psu. Just install it and it will work perfectly?
Thanks

Well I can afford it perfectly. I'm buying from amazon. Is this one compatible with my rig? http://www.amazon.co.uk/EVGA-1176MHz-1255MHz-5400MHz-Graphics/dp/B00IGQ4Z3S/ref=sr_1_3?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1414929191&sr=1-3&keywords=geforce+gtx+750+ti

I am not familiar with that particular make/model.

This site http://www.game-debate.com/hardware/?gid=2073&graphics=GeForce%20GTX%20750%20Ti%20EVGA%20SuperClocked%202GB%20Edition

says that it requires no external power and that is what you want.

The next card up the range, the FTW-ACX does have the exta 6 pin connectors, which the reviews suggest is only needed it you intend to push the card even further.

This is another review of the card which says the same.

Finally, on the amazon link you provided the first Q&A is this !!!

Q: does this card require any extra power connectors?
A:
Hello, Our stock does not require external power connectors, all power is delivered from the motherboard directly to the this video card. You just require min of a 400W PSU to operate this card.

That says the card will work on your system. The 400W maximum is to cover them against crazy people. This card cannot draw more than 60W from the PCI-e, so your existing PSU should be fine.

Thanks for the help. Should be ordering this GPU tomorrow.
About the Q&A. I did have a look around and a guy did say it worked on his 300w psu.

I have gotten the GPU and it's perfect, but I have some stuttering issues on BF4. Asked another question about it.
