Hi there, I was going to buy the GTX 760 for an upgrade but im not sure if my processor is good enough. My processor is a AMD FX(tm)-4170 Quad Core. Is that good enough for a GTX 760 2GB?
It will be a bottleneck in some games. It is not a very good CPU. The 6300 will be an upgrade but in many games the CPU will really hold you back. Even an fx6300 would be much better.
Don't buy an 8350. BIG waste. Get an 8320. It is the same CPU minus .5ghz.
That card is as powerful as a FX 6300 can handle. There will be a bit of bottlenecking in the FX 4170. What is your mobo by the way? I would recommend going for an FX 8320.
Ok then thanks. i only want the card to improve on a few games like Alien isolation and a few other games. But will it only bottleneck on games that eat up your processor like DayZ? Or will it do it to games that require good graphics cards too?
Im looking at the prices and the card and the processor come up to £253 which is a little to much for me. So i might just have to buy the GPU and get the CPU some other time like middlemarkal said.
Remember that your motherboard's VRMs may limit your CPU upgrade choices, and/or severely limit any overclocking. What mobo do you have, and what brand and model (not just wattage) is your PSU?
Bottleneck is nothing dangerous, just means that one component stops another component operating to its full potential, nothing wrong with doing GPU now and CPU later.
