What do I need for a multimedia and casual gaming computer?

I am looking into building my own computer. I currently have a 13" i5 MacBook Pro, but it's dying and was far too slow for my purposes to begin with.

I will be using this new computer for video and audio editing, image manipulation (Photoshop/Gimp), and moderate gaming (Minecraft w/ standard to high settings, Portal, etc). It will also be at least dual boot (Windows 7 or 8, Linux, and possibly OS X.)

Any suggestions on what kind of parts I need/what specs I should be looking for?

Thank you

UPDATE: I was planning on around $1000 though I'm willing to go $1500 if need be. Question: What would the AMD equivalent be to the i7? I've heard AMD CPUs offer similar specs for lower prices. Also, I will be using two monitors.

Haven't noticed you need also for video editing and photshop, then i7 is minimum.

Here is a good price performance machine good for video editing and also gaming, Nvidia graphics for Adobe.

Your going to need at least an i7 with its multi threading tech, I agree with the above poster you need to post your budget and its probably going to be very pricey. I would set aside at least a grand

These are 2 pretty good home media machines, but like I said things get pricey and these are not even top of the line. These are the middle road PC's when it comes to editing.

1st build is with Intel i7 standard
